MINISTRY FORMATION PROGRAM - Details and Application Forms
SILOAM Established in 1978, Siloam is a one year full-time or two year, part-time (one day) program offered every year, for the formation of competent, experienced spiritual directors. This formation program is an integrated program placing strong emphasis on personal growth, contemplation and discernment. Individual and group supervision of ministry, seminar work, tutorials, case studies and regular group interaction build on the participant's ministry as a spiritual director, alongside and connected to personal reflection, study and one's own spiritual direction.
A contemplative attitude permeates all seminar and practical work. Group prayer, residential prayer weekends and the sharing in faith of life's ups and downs helps Siloam participants to create a community of faith.
A Certificate in Spiritual Direction is awarded on successful completion of the program. Applicants who have a previous degree (in any discipline) can enroll through Yarra Theological Union for a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Melbourne College of Divinity or on completion of a further three units can be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Theology. SPIRITUAL LEADERS Established in 1987, the Spiritual Leaders program is designed for those who find themselves in various positions of 'leadership' within their faith community. Parish Priests, Pastoral Associates, School Principals, Specialist Teachers, Nurses and Hospital Chaplains, to name a few, have found Spiritual Leaders an invaluable program for the personal integration of the theory and practice of a discerning approach to ministry. The program approach is essentially experiential. Seminar-style learning focuses on a contemplative approach to prayer, discernment, ministry and spirituality. Participants bring examples of their ministry experience to the peer group for reflection, discussion and learning and meet for individual supervision of their ministry. The time commitment is one morning a week (3 hours) for the duration of the academic year, plus two individual (1 hour) supervision session per term.
